The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins - Chapter 1 Summary

Stop Wasting Your Life on Things You Can’t Control

If you’ve ever felt like no matter how hard you try, it’s never enough, this will change everything.

This is the Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins. It’s about finally stopping the cycle of over-controlling, over-explaining, and over-pleasing.

Over the next 20 chapters, I’ll break down the book into short lessons you can actually live by.

If you would like to watch the video version of CHAPTER 1, you can do so at the end of the blog.

Chapter one is all about the trap of wasting your life on things you can’t control.

You shrink yourself smaller, you work harder, you try to please everyone… and still, someone’s disappointed.

The truth? Other people only have power if you hand it to them.

When you stop trying to control what isn’t yours to control, you stop wasting energy.

You reclaim your time, your focus, and your peace of mind.

So next time they doubt, complain, or judge… let them.

Let Them Moments: Real-Life Examples You’ll Relate To

  • You weren’t invited

Friends had a gathering. Family went out. You saw it online. You weren't included.

Let them.
You don’t need to be everywhere to be valued. Your peace matters more than the politics.

  • They didn’t reply to your message

You saw the “read” receipt. It’s been two days. You start questioning what you did wrong.

Let them.
Silence doesn’t always mean something’s wrong. Don’t fill the blanks with stories.

  • Someone judged your life choices

You don’t want kids. Or you do but not yet.
You quit your job. You moved back home.
And they made a comment.

Let them.
You’re not living their life. You’re living yours.

  • They commented on what you’re eating / wearing / doing

“That’s a big lunch.”
“You’re wearing that?”
“You work too much.”
“You don’t work enough.” 🙄

Let them.
Other people’s opinions aren’t your responsibility. Especially unsolicited ones.
